Derek Hawkins was a British fighter pilot who was killed when his fighter jet crashed in Afghanistan. He was brought back to life, repaired of any damage caused by the crash, and given Ambient superpowers by the activation of a dormant Resurrect Gene.

He inherited his gene from his grandfather, the legendary British fighter pilot: Chase Hawkins. Chase Hawkins died on a secret multi-government mission, Operation: Heaven on Earth.

Derek was not a very good pilot before the activation of his Ambient superpowers. He passed flight school and got ahead in the military because of the legacy of his highly respected grandfather.

After the activation of his Ambient superpowers, he became the top fighter pilot in Britain. This caused jealousy among other pilots and led to a drunken pub brawl that left the son of the British Prime Minister with permanent brain damage.

During that time, The Jihadist, a terrorist with Ambient superpowers, attacked a London Subway; killing many civilians including three of Britain’s top superheroes. Several nations were forming a global group of superheroes called Battle Hammer to go after the Jihadist and other terrorists. The British government wanted a local superhero on that team, but didn’t want to spare any of their remaining superheroes. Government officials decided to create a new superhero.

The British government was aware of Derek’s special abilities and offered to drop the serious charges against him in exchange for him becoming a member of Battle Hammer. Derek agreed and became The Pilot.

Derek Hawkins is conflicted. He feels guilt for the brain damage he caused to the Prime Minister’s son, and for selfishly being a member of a team of superheroes. He also struggles with balancing his family-based loyalty to the military with his left-wing views.

His left-wing views cause a lot of tension between him and Combat Girl: the leader of Battle Hammer, and a right-wing conservative.

Abilities:

Derek Hawkins’ powers are Ambient based; which means that his cells attract energy from the Ambient Dimension and convert it into the manifestation of his unique superpowers.

 Derek’s powers are mostly intellectual based.

 His mind can figure out how to operate any vehicle in the universe within seconds.

 When operating a vehicle, his mind can do split-second calculations based on the laws of physics to decide a course of action that will lead to a favorable outcome. Derek Hawkins is not proficient in math or science; this ability only functions when he is operating a vehicle.

 His fine motor skills and ambidexterity increase whenever he operates a vehicle.

He is a highly trained soldier.

He has an assortment of gadgets provided to him by British government scientists.

• A plasma pistol.

• Technologically enhanced goggles.

• A jet pack that is powered by an Ambient stone.
